my AC compressor crapped out last year, and my mechanic recommended NOT replacing it. I trust him completely, so we now sweat in the car.
my car is 10 years old this year, and the compressor cost for it would have been upwards of $500 plus labour! |

Ned, we're in some sort of parallel/opposite universe.
Mine came on then went off during the life of this thread. Same here. I turned the AC on today and the damn check engine light went out. I don't suppose it will stay that way, though. The car needs new brakes so I suppose when I get them replaced I'll have them check the damn light too. It costs $49 just to run the diagnostics.

Oh yea, I forgot about that ABS light coming on today also.
That's not important is it? |

It costs $49 just to run the diagnostics. Do you have an auto zone in your town, they run a free diagnostics for you anytime |

Unloaded the Jeep for around $500 and picked up a Buick LeSabre for a grand. Worthwhile trade.
My directionals went out on the Accent last week. I knew it was the relay because the hazards were out too, but I couldn't find the panel. There are some relays in the engine compartment and a fusebox on the driver's side. I found a few schematics on the web, but they all pointed to a box in the front of the car. None pinpointed the location and some located it on the passenger side. I took out a plastic shield under the steering assembly, looked WAY underneath with a flashlight and there it was! I went to the auto part store and got the new relay for $10, instead of the $85 it probably would've cost at any garage. So, despite being a public menace for a few days ( On streets I tried using hand signals, but it is obvious that the general population barely understands a left turn hand signal - forget the right turn or stop! ) I felt pretty good for fixing it my owndamnself and saving the money. |

Does that Buick leSabre have the imitation mahogany dashboard and rich Corinthian leather?

5 seconds to replace - 3 days to locate the relay panel under the steering column.

I don't want to hear your excuses....I just want to know when my car will be ready.
DON'T TOUCH A THING. I WANT A SECOND OPINION. I will NOT pay your diagnostic fees....SUE ME. |

NO ONE can argue with sensible good looks and sensual FEEL of the LeSabre.
(It make the Mazda Protege look like a eunuch. |

$1,200 to repair rear seal, water pump, timing belt & various other belts and seals. Runs like a new car. I love my 1996 Subaru Legacy Wagon GT.

My brother swears by the 1987 Legacy Coupe. Over the years he bought 3 of them. First one went to daughter #1 when she turned 17 and the car turned 14. That
one lasted until she was 21 and she bought another (same year, different color). Second daughter got one at age 18 and still has it 4 years later.

The car only has 80,000 miles on it, is solid, weighs a ton & I have snow tires for it which makes it impossible to get stuck in anything under a foot of
snow. Is this the same brother whose ass was kicked down in the county park a couple weeks ago? (I drilled but forgot about it until now).
ef, I love 5 second/3 day fix. Some sort relay or other thing I don't under stand (fusible plug maybe?) went a couple years ago. It amounted to a 3" wire with prongs on both ends. I just made the wire smaller by moving a prong to past where it wasn't fried. This mattered because you could only get these things at the dealer & it was Sunday & my car was at work immobilized in a spot it shouldn't have been. I had changed the alternator & shorted this thing while tightening a nut. I'm the boss'n all but I didn't want everybody coming in Monday seeing I was working on my car at work over the weekend. Bad form & all is what you f oners say I believe. Anyhow I bought two the next day & actually believe I remember where I put the spare. |
